There are a number of simple ways to rid yourself of any unwanted hair. The traditional methods are still popular, generally because the price is negligible and you don’t need to book into a salon for the treatment. Waxing (and sugaring), epilating, tweezing/plucking and shaving are cheap and fast options that have the desired effect – at least for a few days.

Waxing

There are a number of brands which offer easy waxing solutions if you do decide to do the treatment yourself. Ready-to-use wax strips and warm wax roll-on applicators are produced by brands such as Veet to enable quick and easy waxing at home. The benefits of waxing – although painful – are that the hair removed takes several weeks to grow back. If the idea of waxing at home is too daunting, most beauty salons do all body areas and are experienced in making the treatment as pain-free as possible.

Epilators

Using an epilator (a hand-held device which uses rotors or lines of rubber to pluck several hairs at once) is of a similar pain-level to waxing and has the same result, but takes longer. Tweezing or plucking hair is also somewhat painful, but is a great way to maintain your eyebrow shape or remove unwanted upper lip or nose hairs. As all three methods – epilating, tweezing and waxing – remove the hair from the root, the effect lasts longer.

Shaving

Shaving, perhaps the most popular method of hair removal due to its ease and painlessness, does not have the same long-lasting effects. Shaved areas may show stubble within a few days, and due to the nature of the treatment (a sharp blade slices the hair at skin level, which then grows back with a pointed edge) the re-growth may have an undesirable prickle.
